April showers, bring... Well, it's that time of year when severe storms can wreak havoc on telephone systems, causing outages, damaged equipment, and loss of revenue. Several of Liberty's clients have experienced power outages due to thunderstorms. Since your telephone system is the main way to communicate, being down for more than a few minutes can really disrupt your business. You should have enough battery backup protection for your telephone system and computer network in the event that you experience a power outage. And if you do have a battery backup, it should be less than three years old.

In addition to power outages, you can be affected by power surges, which can occur through the telephones lines or an AC power outlet. You can protect your investment very simply by installing ITW LINX Lightining Protectors on all your analog telephone lines, so if you have 6 lines on your telephone system, a fax/modem line, and credit card line, you would need eight Protectors. Also, please make sure that your telephone system is grounded and that the AC power outlet is dedicated for proper surge protection. Whether you have POTs lines or T1 circuits, make sure your business insurance covers your telephone equipment.
